A beautiful coastal setting
Often called “the best of Northern California, all in one place”, the coast combines stunning natural beauty with ocean beaches, a harbor and a charming downtown.
The coast is home to beautiful orange pumpkin fields in the fall, Christmas tree farms for the holidays and a year-round floral display at the many nurseries, farms and gardens. Pillar Point Harbor is constantly bustling with the catch of the day, or paddlers and surfers heading out for a day’s outing. Half Moon Bay’s Main Street has a rich history, with dozens of buildings of historic significance, parks, live music, many shops, galleries and eateries.
Year around activities
Around the corner from Big Wave, the Harvard Neighborhood Market takes place on the second Saturday of each month near Pillar Point Harbor. At this event, Big Wave sells farm eggs, herbs, and other products grown, created, and packaged on the farm by our volunteers and residents. Other fun events include the famous Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival, Shakespeare in the Park, Night of Lights, and an Old Fashioned 4th of July Parade. Local family attractions include a visit to Harley Farms to see the baby goats, Lemos Family Farm with train rides and a petting zoo, and exploring tide pools.
On weekends, the Saturday Coastside Farmer’s Market is at Shoreline Station from May through December. Hosting dozens of growers from near and far, you’ll find farmers, craftspeople, florists, ranchers, chocolatiers, culinary artisans, music and more. In the summer and fall, there’s often music downtown at Mac Dutra Park. The monthly Make it Main Street event brings together artists, musicians and other performers to celebrate local arts and culture.

Half Moon Bay is conveniently located less than 30 minutes from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and 45 minutes from San Jose International Airport (SJC) and is just 13.2 miles away from San Mateo and the peninsula area.
Big Wave’s proximity to the beach and Half Moon Bay’s working harbor will provide residents with a host of recreational opportunities, such as hiking, sailing, kayaking, horseback riding, and surfing. Proximity to businesses and coastal life will also provide opportunities for integration within the larger community.
Together, these opportunities will enable Big Wave residents to develop meaningful friendships, live with purpose, and engage with the community.
